Meet the Founder

Founded by Christina Iskandar, Beirut Couture was born out of passion for fashion and a deep connection to Lebanon. With a background in chemical engineering, Christina’s path into the fashion world was driven by a desire to build something meaningful around an industry she has long admired.

As she began building relationships with established Lebanese designers and emerging talents, she became increasingly aware of the importance of bringing greater visibility to Lebanon’s exceptional craftsmanship under one platform. The country’s couture and fine jewelry industries deserve to be recognized not only for their beauty but also for their contribution to Lebanon’s creative and economic future.

Christina founded Beirut Couture to help bridge this gap by connecting discerning clients with exceptional Lebanese creations, fostering connections within the local industry and contributing to the preservation and growth of Lebanese craftsmanship.

For Banet Beirut shoot, we brought together four Lebanese women whose lives and work reflect different expressions of this connection.

Farah Dagher, co-founder of Origin Circle, returned from New York to create a space where wellness and community could meet in Beirut.

Nemat Younes represents the next generation of Yasser Younes Jewellery, contributing to a family business while preparing to begin a family of her own.

Mira Beydoun, an artist and mother of two, is intentional about preserving the kind of childhood many Lebanese remember: one shaped by nature, simplicity and the freedom to explore.

Laetitia Riachi, co-owner and CEO of Helwé Natural Skincare, returned from France to build alongside her mother a business rooted in local production and authentic beauty.

Their paths differ but they share a common thread: a desire to build meaningful lives while remaining connected to Beirut and the values that shaped them.

Each woman wears couture by Sara Mrad, a Lebanese designer whose creations bring together femininity and a distinctive vision of modern couture. Photographed by Moucho Tashjian, this editorial is a portrait of Beirut through the women who continue to give it life. Not simply women who live in Beirut but women who contribute to what Beirut becomes.

Individual Portraits

Farah Dagher

Farah Dagher, co-founder of Origin Circle, Beirut's social wellness club. Having studied and built part of her professional life in New York, Farah chose to return to Lebanon and create a space where wellness and community could come together. Rather than waiting for that space to exist, she built it herself.

Starting something new in Beirut requires resilience and a genuine belief in the community one hopes to serve. Farah represents women who do more than return to the city; they actively contribute to its next chapter.

During our Banet Beirut shoot, what stood out was her effortless elegance with which she carried herself.

For the editorial, Farah wears couture by Sara Mrad, whose designs bring a modern fairytale sensibility to Lebanese couture. The photographs were captured by Moucho Tashjian.

Nemat Younes

Nemat Younes is part of the next generation behind Yasser Younes Jewellery, a family name within Lebanon's jewelry scene. Actively involved in the business, she brings her own perspective to a legacy built over years of dedication and hard work.

During our Banet Beirut shoot, Nemat was eight months pregnant with her first child. Yet her energy and commitment never seemed to waver. She moved through the day with grace, completed the shoot and returned to work, embodying the many roles women can hold at once.

It was a moment that captured something meaningful: a woman continuing to contribute to a family business while preparing to begin a family of her own.

For the editorial, Nemat wears couture by Sara Mrad, paired with jewelry by Yasser Younes Jewellery. The photographs were captured by Moucho Tashjian.

Mira Beydoun

For Mira Beydoun, motherhood is one of life's most meaningful responsibilities: the everyday work of shaping a childhood and creating the conditions for children to grow into themselves.

An artist and mother of two boys, Mira approaches family life with creativity and intention. Living abroad has only strengthened her desire to keep her children connected to Lebanon. She continually brings them back to be close to their family and culture. She wants them to experience a childhood many of us remember: one shaped by nature, freedom and time to simply be children.

During our Banet Beirut shoot, Mira's playful spirit and natural ease stood out.

For the editorial, Mira wears couture by Sara Mrad. The photographs were captured by Moucho Tashjian.

Laetitia Riachi

Laetitia Riachi, co-owner and CEO of Helwé Natural Skincare, returned to Lebanon after spending years in France, where she studied and founded a startup of her own. She later joined her mother, Dr. Josiane Riachi, in growing Helwé, a Lebanese skincare brand founded on a commitment to quality and local production.

Together, they are building a business that brings authentic beauty and locally made skincare into focus, while reflecting the values of family and entrepreneurship.

During our Banet Beirut shoot, Laetitia embodied the understated beauty associated with her brand. With minimal makeup and her hair kept natural, she appeared effortlessly glamorous.

For the editorial, Laetitia wears couture by Sara Mrad. The photographs were captured by Moucho Tashjian.

Created during a time of war, this film reflects a conviction at the heart of Beirut Couture: that continuing to create in Lebanon is itself an act of commitment. Featuring Maison Ali, the film stands as a tribute to the Lebanese designers and artisans who continue to work and believe in Lebanon even when the circumstances make doing so difficult.

For Beirut Couture, this was more than a fashion film. It was a statement of purpose: our responsibility to the country is not reserved for its best days.

The rooster, a symbol of courage, stands as a fitting emblem for An-Nahar and the Tueni family's enduring place in Lebanese journalism. Founded in 1933, the newspaper has been part of Lebanon's public and cultural life for generations.

Today, Nayla Tueni continues this legacy, leading An-Nahar into a new chapter while preserving the principles that have shaped its history. Through her work, she brings a contemporary perspective to an institution whose story is deeply intertwined with that of Lebanon itself.

Her role extends beyond journalism. As a member of the advisory board of the Fédération Libanaise de la Mode, she also contributes to the continued development of Lebanon's fashion industry.

The memory of Gebran Tueni remains inseparable from this legacy. His voice and love for Lebanon endure through the work that continues in his name. In Nayla, that legacy finds a daughter carrying it forward with purpose, and integrity.

For Beirut Couture, this editorial was an opportunity to bring together different expressions of Lebanese creativity: couture, fine jewelry and the cultural influence of a woman whose work connects the country's past with its future.

Three women in couture seated and lying among white drapery, a backgammon board in the foreground, black-and-white photographs behind them

Dear Lebanon,

Every one of us carries a piece of your story. A story shaped by migration, by the memories we hold close and by our enduring love for a land that gave us so much, even when it could not promise us a future.

Wearing Rami Kadi's Spring/Summer 2025 Couture collection, Chaîne des Danses, we explored the contrasts that define the Lebanese experience: the distance between the lives we have built elsewhere and the childhoods, traditions and memories that continue to bring us home.

In the background, black-and-white imagery evokes the shadows of childhood during war, families separated by exile and the quiet exhaustion of building a life abroad.

In the foreground, colour brings us back to the memories that remain unmistakably ours: stringing daisy necklaces with the girls, playing Tawle with rules that were never quite followed, making cup telephones that barely worked, drinking Bonjus after a zaatar man'oushe and buying ghazl el banet from roadside vendors.

These ordinary moments are anything but ordinary. They are the small fragments of a shared childhood that become part of who we are wherever life takes us.

Some left because they had to. Others stayed, not because it was easy but because they could not imagine letting go.

This editorial is a love letter to the Lebanon we carry within us: a reminder that our connection to this land lives in our memories, our people, and our determination to keep creating here.

May Lebanon rise again through the hands of those who continue to believe in it, build within it and refuse to let it go.

Our muses are women who carry Lebanese culture with grace and purpose. Mothers, founders, artists and daughters whose work, values and everyday contributions continue to shape the country around them.

For this Beirut Couture editorial, we brought together four women we deeply admire. Each has built a life and career of her own, guided by a commitment to her work, her family and the values she holds close. They are women who may not seek the spotlight, yet leave a lasting mark on the people and communities around them.

From left to right, Carla Chamoun, the Lebanese singer whose voice has reached the stage of Hans Zimmer; Salwa Chalhoub, founder of Opera Gallery Beirut, who brings people and cultures together through art; Marijo Samneh, founder of Corporate Code, whose work centers on legal and compliance services; and Lilia Sabbagh, founder and managing partner of Sabbagh Law Firm, whose professional achievements are matched by her commitment to mentoring and advocacy.

Together, they represent a form of elegance that extends beyond appearance: one shaped by substance, integrity and presence.

The editorial also celebrates the artistry of Lebanese couture, featuring designs by Abbas Harajli, Gemy Maalouf, Harithand, Hassidriss and Jean Pierre Khoury. Their creations reflect the depth and diversity of a fashion culture that has long been part of Lebanon's identity.

Individual Portraits

Lilia Sabbagh

Lilia Sabbagh is the founder and managing partner of Sabbagh Law Firm and Sabbagh Consultancy LLC. With more than 25 years of legal expertise, she advises family offices, private equity firms and high-net-worth individuals.

Her professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to knowledge and leadership. Lilia is a graduate of Harvard Business School's Senior Executive Leadership Program, holds an Executive MBA from ESCP and ESA and earned her law degrees from Saint Joseph University.

Yet for Lilia, professional achievement is only one part of a meaningful life. She believes in the importance of supporting others beyond the spaces in which success is most visible. Throughout her career, she has mentored young women in her field and contributed to causes that protect and empower others, serving on the boards of OpenMinds and Himaya.

During our Beirut Couture shoot, wearing a design by Harithand, Lilia radiated grace and a deep sense of personal conviction. Through Lara Zankoul's photography and with Pamela Khadra's artistic direction, the images captured a woman whose accomplishments are grounded in values and whose influence extends through the people she supports.

Salwa Chalhoub

Salwa Chalhoub is the founder of Opera Gallery Beirut, a leading contemporary art gallery in Lebanon. Alongside her work in the art world, she is a certified health coach and a devoted mother.

Through Opera Gallery, Salwa contributes to a cultural landscape in which art creates connections across borders, perspectives, and generations. Yet what struck us most during our Beirut Couture shoot was something that extended beyond her professional accomplishments.

Behind the scenes, Salwa brought an authenticity and warmth that made everyone around her feel included. Her enthusiasm was contagious and she had a natural ability to uplift the people sharing the moment with her.

Wearing a design by Abbas Harajli, captured by Lara Zankoul, with the support of Pamela Khadra and makeup by Hawraa Al-Dakak, her portraits celebrate a woman whose presence brings as much to a room as her work brings to the cultural community around her.

A woman in a pale blue gown with flutter sleeves standing on a round white plinth against a white panelled wall

Marijo Samneh

Marijo Samneh is the founder and CEO of Corporate Code sal., a consultancy firm providing legal and compliance services. She also serves as Head of Legal, Compliance and HR at Arab Bank Switzerland Lebanon, where she holds the additional role of board secretary.

Her professional life reflects a commitment to responsibility and the principles that guide her work. Yet beyond her career, Marijo was entering another meaningful chapter when we met her for our Beirut Couture editorial. Nearly five months pregnant with her second child during the shoot, she embodied a beautiful balance of ambition and motherhood. Wearing a design by Gemy Maalouf, she carried herself with an elegance that felt entirely her own.

Wearing Gemy Maalouf, captured by Lara Zankoul, with the artistic direction of Pamela Khadra, the photographs celebrate a woman whose presence extends beyond what the camera captures: her accomplishments, her grace, and the many dimensions of a life being built with purpose.

Carla Chamoun

Carla Chamoun is a Lebanese singer whose voice brings renewed life to the music of Fairouz, Wadih El Safi and other Lebanese icons whose songs have shaped generations.

Her work bridges musical heritage and contemporary performance. She made history as the first Arab vocalist to perform with Hans Zimmer's orchestra, bringing her voice to an international stage while remaining connected to the music and culture that shaped her.

What drew us to Carla was not only her talent but the way she approaches her work and the platform she has built. She carries herself with professionalism and respect, while her performances of religious hymns offer another expression of the faith and values that are important to her.

For our Beirut Couture editorial, Carla wore a design by Hassidriss. Through Lara Zankoul's lens, and with Pamela Khadra's artistic direction, the photographs captured a woman whose presence is as compelling as her voice.
